Here was my attempt at it. Went warbonnet all the way, but have since gone back to ground. I just like having the extra room and found that weight/pack size was about the same.

Suggestion: when you finally get an under quilt, and you will, go for full length. I did the 3/4 length and it was not worth the very small savings in weight/size.

I've switched to hammocks only. Have no groundnshelters. I don't fall off a pad, can sit in Hammock and tie shoes, sit and relax, arms don't fall asleep. I can hang over logs, rocks, uneven ground. Don't worry about water running in. I'm the south east where I am I simply could not find a small 2 man shelter set up in 4 miles! That sold me on the ground.

I sleep better than I ever have. Yes it is a tad heavier but not really. The comfort is the tradeoff.

The log was awesome to hang over. Just reminded me how this place had a mind of its own and I was a guest passing through.

I like the idea of a hammock because you can pitch it between two trees. That means you can spend more time hunting or hiking and less time looking for a flat spot. Someone needs to make an inflatable hammock for insulation.

Look up hammock gear Incubator. I've used my hammock to 15 degrees. Stayed toasty warm. I have zero, 20 and 40 degree sets.
