Merlin day pack/talon, first impressions

Postby MontanaMarine » Fri Aug 04, 2017 4:55 pm

The Merlin showed up today, only 48 hours from placing the order.....nice.

At first blush, I like it. Large enough to hold a few things, but still very lightweight.

I put a few items in the pack to see how it felt, and how much room it actually has. So here's what I put inside:

- 48 oz Nalgene 'silo' bottle, in the side compartment. Could have easily put a Toaks 850 ml cup on the bottom of it.
- Silvertip tent, with pole and stakes.
- Helinox ground chair.
- Olicamp Xcelerator stove.
- Primus 8 oz stove fuel.
- Leupold Yosemite 6x30 binos.

Still room for a Mountain House meal, or other snacks or small items.

A few pics,

The wife and I went for a 6-mile day hike yesterday. I used the Merlin to carry a few things. Very comfortable with a weight of about 9.0 lbs including the pack. Hardly knew it was there.
