Hunting. I love the outdoors in general, but hunting makes me feel something I don't get in everyday life.

Welcome aboard and glad you are having fun. It's a pretty open forum do not hesitate to ask just about anything.

The front range has some great hiking. What is your favorite area ?

We hiked all around Copper Mountain ,and Aspen , we were out there for 10 days and managed 6 great hikes . made it to around 13,000 on a hike by independence pass , my biggest concern for an elk hunt is how on earth will i ever manage to hall one out by myself , i feel I'm in pretty good shape and hammer hard more days a week then not to improve but wow , no oxygen is still no oxygen . hoping to find someone else with my passion for bow hunting that is interested in the adventure

M. Shore, I'm a bowhunter too. What's your setup?

Elk are tough to pack out, and it is tougher during archery because the warmer temps mean you have less time to get the meat cooled down. It can be done though, especially if you have help or can hire a horse packer.

Hey Nathan , I shoot a Mathews switchback xt and Berman ICS 400 tipped with small mechanicals . I'm a whitetail and bear hunter from northern MN this set up has worked great to me for many years. May have to change things up a bit for Elk. Going to be a huge learning curve for me that's for sure.

I got my elk with a Hoyt Katera shooting 460 grain Eastom FMJ 340's with Slick Trick heads. That setup is about 266 fps.

This year I think I will be shooting a new Bowtech Carbon Overdrive with the same arrow. It'll probably be in the 290's, but I may drop 1-2 lbs in bow weight due to the carbon riser.

I'm already looking at accessories. I will probably stick with spot hog, ripcord, and bee stinger. I've had good luck.

I am a 95 percent bowhunter mostly because of necessity (longer seasons and more season options). I do have to admit bowhunting is very addictive :)
