Little Bug Out work well for 6'6" person?

Postby blendergasket » Sun Apr 16, 2017 9:57 pm

Hi!

I'm trying to get some feedback from other tall people who use this tipi system a lot.

I'm 6'6" and I am looking into this tent because it looks like it has the best weight/price/space ratio but I want to make sure I can fit well into it.

Are there any people around my height who use this tent? Can you use it without the vestibule? Or do you have to fit into it lengthwise with the vestibule?

Can people my size a.) lie in it without the edges of my quilt hitting the end? b.) sit in it straight up with some room to spare? It looks big enough on paper, but it''s hard for me to visualize how the angle of the walls effect the space.

I'm assuming this isn't made in Cuben anymore. If it is, please let me know.

Thank you for any information/perspectives!

Hi
It is not made in cuben anymore . I would be hesitant to recommend it for 6'6" unless sleeping from base into vestibule orientation . The cimarron will fit no problem but may be too large for a solo person . The LBO can work , but not sleeping across the base

I'm 6' 4" and I can just fit across the LBO base on a bit of an angle. I use one of the older nests (nylon) and the nylon is very near my face but I don't need to worry about my quilt getting damp with the nest so I use it most of the time. On paper the footprint seems big but the slope of the roof cuts down on that space in a hurry.

Thanks for the info. This is what I'm looking for.

Would it be possible to get the LBO with guy outs sewn onto the sides to add a bit less angle on the bottom? A few pictures I see online look like they have this. Do you think this'd be possible/would it help much?

Each seam on my base has an upper tie out and the vestibule has a single on the center seam. Depending on how tight you pitch the LBO , I'd say you move the wall out 3-5 inches at the upper tie outs. This helps but it is not a huge change in the roof angle. As Kevin said if you want to sleep with a base and vestibule configuration (without a stove) it would work. Now if you want more room add the tarp for the vestibule when it becomes available ( 16 +/- ounces).

I didn't wait for the new connecting tarp but I'm still OK with the pitch.
I put it up tight to seam seal and the next morning I remembered another use for the upper tie outs!

I have a four year old SO medium stove that has worked great with my LBO and 2pc vestibule. Now that I've upgraded to a 3pc vestibule and tarp I may look at the sxl for winter use.

Do you prefer to put the stove in the middle or in the vestibule when you are 2 pers???

I'm not sure as I have just purchased the connecting tarp. My thought is that I'd like to use the stove in the vestibule but when things turn cold, I may like it in the center.

Ok,i dont know if ill order the new tarp with a stove jack, not sure of the center location but as you said,in winter it should help distribute the heat better.
