Pack Fit and Adjustment

Postby Nathan C » Mon Feb 03, 2014 10:05 am

Fitting and adjusting a Paradox is fast and simple.

To adjust the harness, load the pack with some weight, shoulder it, set the belt, and adjust the harness to where it needs to be.

If you've got a short torso then you can gain a couple more inches of adjustment by extending the hipbelt connection out to the longer grommet.

Can you tell me what the width of the frame is?

I'm about 5'9" but I measure short torso (16" from C7 to top of iliac crests). Is there any reason to bother getting the pack frame extensions?

They do not cost any extra. At 5'9 you could likely do without them, but the frame itself is really not intrusive even when it is taller. My wife is 5'9 and runs a tall frame. I'd say get them, and decide if you want to use them.

Chris

Width at bottom / top or material ? Top is about 8.5 inches , Bottom about 14 , and diameter is 5/8ths. Nathan can probably give more specific measurements.

Thanks
Kevin

Thanks Kevin - I'm considering this pack for an overseas trip. My wife and I are going to take our sons travelling. I'm not entirely sure where we'll end up going but one thing's for sure - I'll end up carrying the bulk of the stuff. :) Having a frame that I can attach dry bags to might be very convenient. I was wondering about the overall width because I'd want a light weight duffel bag to put the pack into when flying.

I'm pretty sure the pack works as a carry on maybe with a minor change to the frame and extensions. I think one of our customers uses it extensively.

The Frame is around 14.5" wide at the bottom, which for some airlines will work fine but for some European airlines it will not.

We have a customer who travels extensively throughout Europe, and what I did for him was make a frame that was only 22" tall but that had a set of 2" and 6" extensions so that he could get through the majority of airports without issue with the shorter frame. Then when through the airports he can add either set of extensions and use the packbags with the frame height they were intended for.

Some airports will be a stickler for the width and in those cases he simply disassembles the frame in order to squeeze the pack through and then reassembles it when through security.

I have had my pack bag off the frame several times but I am still not absolutely sure I am attaching it to the frame correctly, especially up at the top where the two buckles pull the pack into the frame. I am not sure I have them right. Maybe someone could post a photo of the correct setup.

Mule,

All you have to do is run the webbing for the top connection through one of the slots in the top triglides, then put a buckle on those two straps and close it.

I'm not sure if we have a video on that or not. If not I will try to get one in the next few days.
