Peregrine Q and A - Overview

Backpack Discussion

Hey Camber, I'm glad you posted this question. I have gotten quite a bit of use out of my Peregrine this season, more than any of my other pack bags, and I can definitely say this is by far my favorite pack bag. Granted its not going to be enough for every application, but I find myself trying to use it any way I can no matter what or how I'm packing in.

I want to say you also utilized the EVO to REVO upgrade kit if I remember correctly? That's what I have. When using the standard bag attachments at regular frame height (no extensions), there is going to be a gap between the bag and the load shelf. However this whole past week when I was using the pack, I just put in my foam pad in that gap to use for glassing and it covered the space well. When I don't have something to put in that extra space, I'll often just take the load shelf buckles and actually connect them each to a higher buckle on the pack, criss crossing in an 'x' shape and it keeps the load shelf tight against the pack bag if that makes sense.

The other thing about this pack is that I've actually completely ditched the pack bag connections. I now solely utilize only the compression straps and have found that I love the way it then rides on my back supremely better. The awesome thing about the peregrine is the 2 different variations of how you can use the compression straps on each side. I find this super helpful to accommodate for different applications ex., hauling meat in between or just other dry bags etc. But when using just the bag by itself which I do a lot, I just use the compression attachments on the outermost part of the bag and not the true side of it. I can compress it down super tight and it just rides awesome. I love this pack.

Hi Swisski,

I really appreciate you chiming in here! And yes, you have a great memory...I have the REVO upgrade too.

I definitely need to make some time to play around with this too, especially since I just got the hipbelt pockets. When I do I'm going to take out my extensions and try what you're describing by putting my crazy creek chair in the gap between the pack and the load shelf. I'll also give the x crossing a try...I should have thoguht of that, but my brain tends to think in terms of the presented parameters...I never thought of connecting the load shelf elsewhere than the bottom of the pack.

When you say the outermost connections, are you referring to those that take the straps over the bottle/wand pockets?

Thank you again!

Correct, which is also useful for things like a tripod or a spotting scope, those straps will then cover that area allowing those items to stay in securely.

I have a Divide and am also looking to get a smaller pack to fit on that amazing comfy frame. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with mounting a Peregrine on a Unaweep frame? I see I can buy a Revolution Frame Panel which I assume will make all revolution bags compatible with the Unaweep frame on my Divide.

I'd love some feedback to make sure this'll work before I shell out the money for the Revolution Frame Panel and Peregrine.

Thanks for reading!

You need the revo panel as the peregrine has no suspension capability to support the frame

I am thinking of getting a Unaweep 3900 and adding the Peregrine instead of a talon. My ultralight setup would fit fine in a 3900 but I also bring a ton of video gear for work trips and like the idea of having the Peregrine for lenses, tripod, camera batteries after establishing basecamp. I'd carry all my heavy gear in the 3900 to get to camp and tent sleeping quilt in the Peregrine and then switch out for just the Peregrine. I'd add a harness attachment to the Peregrine. Just like the modularity of this setup in theory. Anyone use a peregrine with a 3900 or 4800? is it too much like strapping two large packbags together?

Thanks.

Wait a bit if you can on peregrine . We should be doing a pack that works a little better for that sort of purpose ... although the peregrine will work

Will the new pack system work as a compression panel like a talon, should I hold off on the 3900 as well? Full pack loads will be in 60lb range with camera gear and camping gear food water etc.

It should work like a talon / day talon but be a little cleaner . Actually getting a 3900 would be wise. I think that may be going away or at least there have been discussions on it
