Best way to put on a rain/snow cap

I recently acquired a 8 man tipi and XL stove with a rain/snow cap. With the top of the pipe and diameter of the tent being so big, how do you get the rain cap on the pipe since the rain cap won't obvious slide thru the stove jack? Seems like you need to put the pipe thru before you put up the center pole. Whats the trick? Doing that seems like a good way to damage/bend the pipe....

Put it on after pipe has been put through ... slightly lower tent to reachable height and move stove pipe to side a little . It's a bit of a pain but is what is needed . I personally never use them unless it's just lots of rain
