Beaked Tarp

Beaked Tarp

Postby Axel » Tue Sep 13, 2016 5:06 am

I would like to see a "beaked tarp" introduced and with a light WPB bivy, the tarp perhaps in sizes 10x12 and 12x16, light, very tough and suited for uses in harsh, remote mountains with vile weather.

It should be in the SO brown and green as with the tipis, but, also in a eye-watering bright orange-red colour for use where aerial reccy if lost/injured may save your butt.

The bivy could be eVent or even Neoshell, center zip to ankles, wide for ease of use and with corner tabs for pegging out. A hood with a pole structure for headspace and bug netting would be great and the colours as above.

I have spent scores of nights in the BC mountains using a tarp-bivy combo, prefer this in many circumstances and want another such setup for an "emerg" rig when hiking, etc, alone in the bush.

Just a suggestion, I know that SO would build a kickazz rig if it seems a viable product with sufficient sales volume.

Tarp ... Patience we have some tarp plans in process . BIvy ... Maybe ... We had one that worked really well but fabric durability was not what we wanted . Thanks for input . I agree tarp and bivy work very well at times. No for me , back to chasing elk after a refuel . It's been exciting lately with my stykbow :)

Kevin,

Between the tarp and the frameless pack sounds like some cool stuff coming down the pipeline. Any other new items that we might see? Or significant redesigns?

A new tent shortly bigger than BT2 smaller than Cimarron . More BT2 than Cimarron . Hipbelt pockets . Those are the only things short term. Several items longer term like end of year ... Early next year and beyond . Timeline is just basically when we are satisfied with final product

Cool. Thank you. Ever considered a liner for the cimarron, or is it not big enough to warrant it?

Cimarron half nest provides mostly liner functionality for half the shelter plus a floor and bug protection . Redcliff will work with both. Generally , we favor bigger shelters for liners , stand up , walk with your boots on and smaller shelters a nest approach unless there is a compelling reason to go a different route . Liners require additional attachment points etc so they do make shelters a bit more complex

Thanks Kevin. That explanation makes a lot of sense.

And sorry to the OP for the thread deviation.
