I have another couple of questions.

On the Paradox Evo Combo - Roll Top - Base Talon, it shows a 3900, 4800, and 6300 bag @ $499
On the Paradox Evo Combo - 6300 - Base Talon Combo, it says "6300 Cubic Inch Roll Top Packbag in your choice of colors" @ $558

If the 6300 bag is available in the $499 combo, what is the difference or what am I overlooking?

Someone above asked about adding a daisy chain or similar to the bag. Am I correct that this is a "yes" and if so, do you have an idea of the custom charge? I could see a few outside "tie down" points of some sort being useful.

Thanks for indulging all my questions. I'm anticipating this to be THE bag I want to invest in and end my search, and I just want to be sure. Thanks again.

Hi Snubbie

Thanks for catching typo's and errors in our wording. That is a Dual Draw String Combo that includes a pocket lid. We had it mentioned as a dual drawstring in one point and a roll top in another.

You will notice our pricing is perhaps a bit odd in comparison to others. We are really close to a flat price and really just want you to choose the pack setup that suits you best. For instance a roll top with the lid is about the same price. In the end, we feel we don't want to make getting the right bag that much of a price decision, and the information we gather from trends is more important than nickel and diming you.
We can do some small customizations for a nominal charge. It just depends. What is your perfect world for daisy chains ? Could you send a rough sketch or just say X rows from here to here ? That will give us a better idea. One of the things we did with the newer Roll Top design was try to minimize stitch holes and thus we removed the over the top straps. The over the tops straps of the older design had a bit of a daisy chain built in already, which would be easy to expand on.

I keep looking at this as a typical pack. However it is far from typical, much more versatile IMO, and this is what has attracted me to it. So I keep looking for features typically found on packs, but then find myself questioning if I actually need the features I'm looking for. Which is where I'm at now.
I oftentimes strap on something like a folded Crazy Creek type chair, or a rolled up sleep pad, or a folding camp stool, either to the top or bottom, and sometimes vertically on the sides. I'm trying to envision how I would do this without some type of loops to tie to. I realize they could simply be secured under the compression straps, but then the item would be compressed would it not? I'm not sure that is even an issue.
I'll look at the positioning of the tie down loops on my Terraplane tonight and see how they're configured and if I can do fine without them.

So the new pack bags will not have over-the top compression straps? The photos of the newer bags show a female half of a fastex buckle sewn in the middle, but this will be eliminated? I was thinking these would be good for lashing a sleeping pad or my Alite camp chair to the top of the pack. Perhaps a top pocket lid would do the same thing.

The NEW roll top bags have the center connection female as seen above . The older pack bags had 2 over the top straps that ran from the ice axe loops up the sides with a partial daisy chain built in. I prefer the new system as it is cleaner on the roll tops. The dual drawstring still uses the older system which is dual straps from the ice axe loops. On the draw string this is better because it gives a lid attachment which is included with the drawstring and is needed more on a drawstring closure.

The roll tops re purpose a compression strap for lid closure.

You can compress and hold in a lot of stuff with the talon and default load sling. I currently do a sleeping pad on top via over the top or on the bottom load sling. A chair it depends on its size.
I might compress it in the talon, or put it in a water pocket which are generous in sizing. I've also on occasion slid stuff on the compression strap , like micro spikes as well.

Hope this helps, as always I'm here to help you get the purchase right the first time. It is different, but this far for me it's been generally easier to use

Sent from phone so who knows what autocorrect did to this message. Hopefully it reads ok :)

Snubbie,

Regarding the daisy chains and features found on most packs...

We designed our pack to be very, very versatile while trying to eliminate unnecessary features that add weight and cost. So, I personally would rather NOT have daisy chains on our pack and that's why we eliminated them. In testing of the old style pack bags most water penetration came through the stitch holes, especially in the daisy chain area. Eliminating that saves weight and makes it more waterproof.

IMO the daisy chains aren't very usable anyway. They are buried under the compression system, and the compression/Talon is much much faster and easier to manipulate than tying stuff on with paracord.

Here's how I'd carry a spotter and tripod, rifle, or camp chair.

Image

I could also carry it underneath, over top, on the other side, or on the front of the pack under the Talon. Simply unclick 2-3 buckles, put it where you want it, click back and you're done. That is a lot quicker and easier than messing with paracord knots.

Thanks Nathan. Having gone back and looked at the various photos today and thinking it through, I decided I could probably live without strap down points. Then I came home and looked at my Terraplane. It has compression straps on the sides and I have used them exactly like you have that tripod strapped on. Or a pad or similar could be place between the bag and that load shelf etc. I looked at the daisy chain on the Terraplane and realized I've rarely used them other than looping a carabiner through and then hanging something from that.

And yes, the versatility is what has sold me on this pack. I can see using various bags, or no bag just strapping meat bags on the frame, carrying a treestand in on the frame, etc, etc.

What is your shipping time to NC at this point? I'm about ready to pull the trigger but I have to resolve a medical issue or at least find out what I'm dealing with, which will happen next week. Hopefully all is well and I'll make my final decision on what bag(s) and Talon.

Thanks for all your patience and responses. And I'm sure I can think of more questions before ordering! :o

snubbie,

We're running around 6 weeks right now.

You and I need to get together sometime for a trip in the Smokies. I've been thinking about thru-hiking the SMNP for several years now. That'd be a nice late winter/early spring trip. Do you have any plans to get up to Damascus for Trail Days this year?
