Twin trekking pole setup for bt2

Just curious if anyone has tried the inverted V set up using 2 trekking poles on the bt2 . I have the dedicated carbon pole but I'm thinking set up with the trekking poles may be a good option at times .

Yes, I have done it. You'll need 12 inch pole jacks and good trekking poles that fit into the jacks snugly. Not all trekking poles fit snugly into the different pole jacks that are available.

Also, you don't need to have the two poles very far apart....the farther apart you set the poles, the longer you will need the poles to be. Just get them far enough apart so that you can put your sleeping pad between the poles, in the middle of the tent. That will give you the most head and foot room. I put a bathtub floor sheet between them. You can get these from Bearpaw, Mountain Laurel Designs, or Oookworks. However, if you order from Oookworks only order the in stock items. If you order something custom made from him, it can be a year or more before you see it (if ever).

You don't need to use a bathtub floor sheet...polycryo, Tyvek, a footprint from another tent you own, or a bivy work as well.

You could probably put the BT2 nest in between the two poles as well, but I have not tried it since I don't have one.

I have some Komperdell Ultralight Vario 4 trekking poles, which are pretty long. The fit ok into the Seek Outside Pole Jacks. I also have some Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Corks, and those fit better into the Zpacks carbon fiber 12 inch pole jack. The Seek Outside pole jack is a little longer and a little heavier.

I also have the Locus Gear DPTE (dual pole extender system). I took out their poles and taped in some of the Seek Outside Pole Jacks into them with electrical tape, because the Locus Gear extenders that come with them have a very wide diameter, and don't fit either of my trekking poles. These allow you to put the pole tips into the roof of the tent, with the grips on the ground. Then you tie the grips together with a length of cord so the poles don't slip apart.

You don't need the DPTE...I just have one that I've used with my Duomid, and I like it.

Anyway, I'm sure that's all clear as mud, but anyway, it does work. It just takes a little experimentation in finding pole jacks that fit snugly with your trekking poles.

By the way: I don't use a stove with my BT2, nor do I have a stove jack for it.
