Got mine yesterday and have a question.
Why is the loop for the compression strap sewn in below the side pocket elastic?

When you actually use it it won't matter if it's above even or below. Should be easier to unhook and hook with it below the bottle so the buckle isn't binding on the contents of the pocket.

I went and looked at mine an it's even with the top of the bottle pocket. Meaning my loop position is esactly sitting on top of yours position and the top of my loop is in line with the top of the bottle pocket.
