Talon ideas...

I will elaborate more later, but we do / did make the gateway front pack which attached directly to the talon compression buckles and provided sort of a waist belt with pockets. Unfortunately we are phasing out the gateway so we are open to ideas

Hi Mule

The Gateway is temporarily discontinued. I really like it, but we are just simplifying it a bit, and perhaps downsizing it a small amount. It should be available again soon. I set it up for pre-order if you like, but it will be a few weeks for they are shipping again. We are removing a couple of the interior pockets, and changing the drain section a bit.

I would like a talon that was essentially a large mesh pocket. In my mind, the back surface (next to the bag) would be VX21 or something similar and the front surface would be mesh with an elastic or drawstring on top to keep things in. This would be good storage for wet items. I have a Gossamer Gear Mariposa with a mesh front panel and like this feature....

I agree. The only problem with mesh it catches on stuff more, but if you are not in brush etc it would be fine.

Thanks for the feedback, those are all really sound ideas. I have been contemplating many of those concepts myself.

I have a couple yards of that spandex stuff they use on the GG packs, I have thought about putting a large pocket of it right over the face of the Basic Talon I have, but an inch narrower to leave the zipper accessible. I will make the panes of spandex the same size and put the same pleats in it, bind the edges like the basic talon and then sew it on top. If I do it I will post a photo or two.

Mule, I would certainly like to see that. Where did you purchase the material? I do tend to modify a lot of my equipment and that's one material I haven't come across.

Kevin, from the looks of it you have a great product. Even if you don't offer the extra things I still plan on buying at minimal a frame. My buddy and I planned on coming out and trying the packs along with some shelters and stoves. Won't be this month as we wanted but we will be most likely hunting 74 this year which means lots of scouting trips. So we will be out to visit eventually and try your gear out. Keep up the great work, you all have made a lot of progress since your first post on backpackinglight.com.

Unit 74 is a nice area.
Would a talon that was cordura one side and mesh the other be desirable ?No zippers just a pocket and compression panel
