Backpack Discussion

Thanks Camber. At that point it makes me wonder if I should just buy the new suspension platform as a whole. I'm not sure what the cost difference would be pricing it together otherwise. I don't really want to since my EVO is only from 2014, and I love it. But at the same time I want to be able to easily utilize all these new products/pack bags.

Some newer bags will work without issues on Evo and most will probably work pretty well, there is just a minor difference in how they connect . Honestly , if the Evo works great for you , I wouldn't be in a hurry to upgrade , although I do believe the revolution is a better pack overall and really checks every box. Don't forget , all of our stuff is pretty interchangeable . If you have an evolution and decide you want to use a Divide all you need is the divide bag and maybe a newer harness or to do the harness work arounds ... The same ones needed for a revolution (longer webbing for the connection )

Thanks Kevin.

If I'm being honest with myself, I will probably end up buying the new harness along with the upgrade kit. Can you comment as to how close the upgrade kit (including new harness) will bring the pack to an actual new Revolution suspension? That along with what the cost differences might be (if you have an idea yet) of doing the upgrade kit compared to purchasing the new Revo suspension platform itself.

As a loyal customer I certainly appreciate your continuous advancements in quality products.

Hi

The upgrade kit, will pretty much make it a Revolution. I say pretty much, because there are a couple small differences
- The Revolution frames are coming coated black. Not sure if that matters to many people but it matters to some. The coating adds minimal weight .1 ounce and is purely looks.
- The packs bags will connect slightly different, but both can work on the other platform. Some of it depends on frame height you prefer to use. If you like you can send us an email to our support account and we can check and Evo bag .. at those frame heights. For what it is worth, almost all current photos you see of packs are of Evolution bags on a Revolution at a 26 inch frame height. So they do work ..pretty much fine.

Outside of those two things , the upgrade kit will make an Evolution a Revolution.

Also, the harness , may not be necessary depending on frame height you use, and there are work arounds, but the new harness is nicer over all . It is not a change in harness fit and cut, it is the exact same cut of our "long harness" it is just in the addition of daisy chains, and the way the load lifter connection is done allows for "load lifter memory" or for it to be used form the slider adjustment which is more convenient and cleaner.

As far as kit price, I have a good idea of it, but we are struggling with a couple things, that honestly are a PITA. First, adding a harness or not , and how to be really clear if you need one. Second, I want to provide existing Evolution customers a discount as good will , but we can't price it exactly that way .. because well people are people and some may try to buy pieces thinking they will have a 57 , 58 , 59 chevy you know that is less expensive. So what will probably happen, is previous customers will have to call or email in for a discount code. I'm sort of sorry we have to do it that way, but we do get folks that try to game the system unfortunately. I suspect the price will be between $115 and $135 for previous customers for both pieces.

I'm with Swisski in that I am likely to just go ahead and spring for the new harness while I'm already throwing down on other improvements, so I say include it in the kit. I also don't see having to call / email for the discount as an issue. I think that makes a lot of sense and appreciate the good will gesture.

Having said all that, I vote for the $115 price...will make it easier to add a Peregrine that I'm lusting after to the order as well.

If you have a moment, could you post photos of the 'naked' Revolution components in a 'exploded' view? Basically, lay just the frame tubes on the floor with the anti-barreling cross stays in their mounting positions with whatever attachment hardware there might be. The pics so far are pretty unenlighteneing since all the new parts are totally hidden behind padding. A video showing how to upgrade an Evo to a Revo might also be quite instructive to your customers.

I appreciate that you are trying so hard to keep the new stuff backwards compatible as much as you can.

I am interested in the harness and upgrade for my Evo frame. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Hey Phillip our Seek outside pack customization service serving Kodiak ... Suprised it took you so long to chime in.
I snapped a couple crappy photos , it should be noted mine is a prototype ... So I don't get the real thing for personal use until the first production run ... But the one on the website is production sample photo. Some of the changes in the revo come from some of your group up there and their requests

So small differences may exist

Switching out is super super easy but we can shoot a video. If it doesn't get done next week it may be awhile because of shows and then a couple trips . Anyway swapping it is pretty much like changing out your Unaweep bag and putting the harness back on.

I have to admit that I can't tell anything at all from those pics. What is the interface between the outside frame members and the cross staves? What holds the staves in place (relative to the frame) and keeps them from rotating?
