Lil Bug Out Specific Questions

Yes it is possible. Disadvantage is it is not as clean. In a couple cases we have made a customized version of the tarp the is cleaner for this configuration. It is something we have wanted to add as a product, but just have not got to making it official yet. However, if you ever plan to use dual bases, the standard to is the way to go.

Is the Base-Tarp-Base configuration completely enclosed? I cannot tell from the photos whether both sides of the tarp completely enclose the tent.

Kevin, I use a 6'-6" sleeping bag and a long wide Exped pad which gets me off the ground about 3 inches or so...anyway, it makes the BT2 a little cramped (doable but I like long shelters...my own quirk I guess). Anyway, is the LBO longer than the BT2 regarding functional length?

Yes the LBO is longer and agreed the BT2 on a big pad and over 6 ft starts being tight

Thanks Kevin.

I also have some questions about the Dual Base configuration vs the Base-3 piece vestibule configuration. I'm assuming dual base is a little heavier...4oz or so? Getting close to Cimarron weight?

Would the dual base configuration be a more wind worthy or snow worthy configuration?

Are there are any other relevant differences between these two configurations that you think of?

I've always been intrigued with the LBO because of its seeming ventilation potential. It looks as if the shelter can have a tight seal to the ground on the bottom, and yet you might be able to create a huge vent at the top by partially unzipping the vestibule from the top down. Am I wrong about this?...This seems like a pretty significant condensation reducer if you can do this.

Also, can you install stove vents retroactively, or do they need to be installed when the shelter is being made?

You are correct on venting but it works better with base and 3 part than base base . The dual base is 32 ounces . The store jack can be added later but saves you shipping of adding it at purchase

I have recently invested in a couple of LBO with the 3 pc vestibule set ups and I purchased the connecting tarp and the new mesh version of the Cougar nest as well. With this combination I feel that I have a very versatile shelter with all of the options that I may need. I am enjoying pitching these different configurations in my yard in preparation for backpack hunting this fall.

I can see the advantage of guying out to increase the useable interior floor space and I want to prepare cordage for this now. I'd like to make up a few lines and would appreciate input on the length that you guys use on these.

I also remember seeing a post where Kevin answered someone's question about the typical length needed to guy out the LBO beak when used with the 3 pc vestibule, but I can not find it now.

thanks,
Jeff

Kevin says 64" in his setup video. I don't have much experience gutting it out yet, but I have bunch that are about 36". Could maybe be a little longer.... I tend to not use them as I usually go out with my kids and they always seem to trip over them. :)

I usually use 6 or 8 if I pre cut however it changes depending on what you want to do . I'd guy something out and see how that feels and cut to the length you like
