Burn times and heat

What is the expected burn time and heat output of the different stoves ? Is it realistic that an XL will heat a tent most of the night, or is reality more of stoking the stove every few minutes ?

I can only get my wood stove in my house to run all night if it is stuffed to the rim with oak and dampered down, and it is a large wood stove in an insulated house. Fact is, that is unrealistic. The XL will often have coals in the morning, and can put out heat for several hours (3 or 4 hours after load it can still be felt putting off decent heat), but it is not enough heat to keep the shelter warm unless it has some insulation (like snowfall). I've had coals in the AM with the large as well. Now the plus side, is with a good bed of coals it will fire right up again pretty easily, so it is not unrealistic to put some wood in 3 hours later and have it come back to life in a few minutes.

To keep a large stove burning constantly you need to feed it wood every 20 to 40 minutes depending how much you dampered it.

I added a baffle to a stove and it helped control the burn quite a bit. Burnt hotter and more consistently and made it a lot easier to cook on the top. Definite recommendation!

I just ordered a BCS2 with a medium stove. Mostly backpack solo but wanted enough room to be comfy and keep my equipment inside. Will the medium stove be adequate for this shelter? Currently in PA with future hopes of Colorado elk hunting.

That's fine. As long as I can take the chill off after a long day and dry out some clothing if need be.. happy camper! Appreciate the info
