Frame Height

Postby SideStitch » Tue Dec 17, 2013 6:53 pm

I see that Paradox has a type of variable frame height. Why? What is the advantage? Honestly it seems a bit fussy to have to change the frame height all the time.

The reason we went with a variable frame height is because different heights are good for different uses.

A 28 inch or even taller frame is good for carrying big loads because you get plenty of shoulder lift, it is easier to get the weight up behind your shoulders, and I think it carries weight closer to your back.

A shorter frame is much better for slipping through brush and gives better head mobility for looking up and climbing.

The Evo changes from 24 to 28 inches with the extensions so it is good a both ends and both uses. I will say however that I use a 26 inch frame a lot and it is a good all round height.

I suppose we could order another set of extensions in two inch. Would that be possible, so we could try the 26 inch overall height? I have had mine back and forth from 24 to 28 and it seems the 28 makes the load lifters very steep and probably is not needed in my case, however, it seems that the extension only allows for more to be connected to the pack up on top. It doesn't change the pack location in respect to the hip belt.

Perhaps I will saw mine off to be a 2 inch riser, and then order another set of the 4 inches in case I ever should need them.

Mule, that works but the packbag connections are geared to a 24 or a 28 inch frame, so it won't be dialed for a 26.

I do like the 26 inch frame for a lot of applications. Its a great all rounder.
