8 or 12 Person Tipi and stove

8 or 12 Person Tipi and stove

Postby dennis » Fri May 22, 2015 10:36 pm

Hi

I'm looking at getting an 8 or 12 person tipi and stove. I'm undecided mostly because of the size. I'm used to small backpacking tents but would like to use this for a nice food shelter. Plan on surrounding it with electric fence. This will be used for guiding. I've found when weather is bad a nice warm tent makes for a great meeting place for clients. Otherwise everyone stays in their small tents. Ideally there would be 6-8 people per trip. We will be in grizzly country.

Is there anyone in the Bozeman, MT area that has either 8 or 12 I could see?

Open to suggestions.

I just went through the same debate and went with the 12-man. These scale drawings that I made might help you decide. The blue boxes represent ground cloth sleeping areas (we are a family of 5) and the red box is an SXL stove. The goofy dude in the suit (sorry, stock clip art) is 6' tall.

I had an 8-man and now have a 12-man. If you have any doubt as to the size get the 12-man. If you will truly only store food the 8-man should be fine. If you think you may use it for sleeping and food at some point get the 12-man.
