Backpack Discussion

Nice pack--some questions

Postby ernda » Wed Apr 22, 2015 3:09 pm

Hi. A few questions:

Now that you've essentially finalized the pack design can you say yet whether the bottle wings will fit or not, especially in the attached-to-hipbelt mode?

When will the packbag-only option be available? It seems it will fit on my old Unaweep frame and since my torso length is only around 16" (I'm 5'9' but have high iliac crests), no issues with the amount of webbing.

BTW, I have the previous "ultralight" version of the frame. How does the weight of that compare to the the new smaller diameter frame?

Finally, when strapping a bear canister under the top straps (I use a Bearikade), do the frame ends extend high enough to provide a buttress against the bear can so that it doesn't flop around? (that's with no use of frame extensions).

Thanks. Really appreciate the attention you pay to your customers.

Pack bag only options are available now.

The bottle wings will work with the belt attachment for sure. I can check the standard config tomorrow.

The frame does not extend past for a bear can, I think in the top of the pack bag or lower is better for stability.

Frame weight is pretty much identical , will fit older frame

Is the new hipbelt design going to be unique to the Divide, or do you plan on making it an across-the-board change?

The 1/2 inch frame will become across the board as a lighter frame , as is the one size harness , the belt will likely work into newer designs and then likely phase out the previous belt . They are interchangeable with the newer being a bit lighter . Which you prefer is likely subjective . I have been using many of the components since last summer . I likely prefer newer belt not so much for comfort but for lack of needles / snow etc getting caught

I've got an 4200 in Multicam on order, now the waiting begins. I can't wait to try it out... by hauling an animal out of the woods. Kevin, I'm definitely going to want zippered waist belt pockets. Will you be offering something besides bottle wings? And I decide to a multi-lid in a decent amount of time before the order ships, that shouldn't be a problem, right?

I think we can get a zippered pocket done soon it had been on our radar . Personally I think the X33 version is awesome . I prefer the gray or coyote color but I put the X33 thru the ringer yesterday and I did very well

I wanted the heavier face fabric for more abrasion resistance. Some of the bush-busting, off-trail situations I've gotten into before have been pretty heavy. I want a pack that will take some use.

BTW, I really love the type of waist belt buckle systems that are anchored back on the belt, so you pull towards the center to tighten. I've broken buckles that pull the standard way. Does the Divide buckle system have that sort of anchor point, or it a more traditional straight pull setup? A picture would be awesome.
