If memory serves me correct I remember seeing inside stakeouts on the Cimarron.
Regarding opening the top zipper on a tipi, I took a 1" dowel and cut two pieces about 12" in length. With a jigsaw, I made cuts on each end and plan to put that in the open zipper space with the zipper in the cutouts to hold it in place. Definitely not storm resistant but all the bugs fly out and it gets great airflow if done to both zippers. We'll see how this works in practice. Trying to put them in place on a 12-man may require a step ladder or dropping the pole to access the top.
