Ongoing 12 Man Review

Yes it's a nice roomy tent. It still amazes us how quick and easy it is to pitch, and take down. We have a canvas wall tent but would never consider pitching it for day use, or even an overnighter, because of the time/work/bulk involved. These tipis are a paradigm shift.

We have sold both of our floored nylon tents (a Trango-2, and Alaskan Guide-8), in favor of the tipi style and woodstove capability.

We have a 4-man tipi inbound, for foot-mobile use.

Nice pics Shane. Glad you are enjoying you're tipi. My son has taken my 12 man ice fishing on Canyon Ferry a couple of times. Sets up in 10-15 minutes and so comfortable he feels like he is cheating. Big Buddy heater and a couple of lawn chairs and good to go. Have fun! Bob

Just a preventive heads-up here.

The aluminum pole for the 12-man was cut sort of rough on the ends of the segments. Rough enough that they rubbed holes in both ends of their carry sack in short order. holes in the carry sack are not an issue for me, but If you have the pole sections packed loose with the tent canopy it could rub some holes in the canopy.

I took a whetstone and smoothed out the rough saw marks on the ends of all the segments. Took maybe 30 minutes to smooth them all up.

Here are a few pics of the 12 and 4 tipis.

We were 'living large' in the 12. Cots, stove/firewood, table, the dog. Didn't really need the 4, but pitched it for some pics.

The 12 makes an awesome 'home away from home' for two and a dog.

Thanks for sharing. Gives good comparison between the 12 and the 4 . Looks nice and quiet out there.

We camped in that same spot 15 years ago back in 2000. Here's a pic from that time. The firewood and stone fire ring we made were still there. But the fire ring has settled into the ground somewhat. The dried out juniper was still good for getting a fire started in the stove.

I just spent a long weekend on Afognak (north of Kodiak Island, Alaska) doing a little deer hunting, beach combing, and generally hanging out in coastal Alaska. We used a 12-man Seek Outside 'mid, and it was a lovely place to spend time. We all slept in smaller tents and just used the 12-man for meals and hanging out by the wood stove. The room was more than ample for 5 adults and 2 kids.
