stakes for use on gravel bars

I just purchased a 12 man and the xl stove for our Alaska float hunt this September. we did a float hunt two years ago and slept in 4 man tents. worked ok, but no where to get out of the weather for cooking, drying out clothes, etc. We will be pitching the tipi on gravel bars and was wondering what the best stakes for this would be?? we tried using bags of rocks last time and it worked ok, but it was on a 4 man tent that had aluminum poles, not a tipi with fabric under tension.

If weight is not a super big issue you might check military surplus stakes. One user on hear looks like he pitches often on Alaskan gravel bars perhaps he chimes in

I have pitched my 8 man on many gravel bars and sand bars in interior Alaska. I have used the stock stakes but wish that I had something longer and a little more stout, at least 12" long. If it starts to get windy the smaller stakes will work themselves out, if ground stakes pull out you will be in trouble. Here is something along the lines that Kevin mentioned that I am looking at getting when floating or jet boating, when stake weight is not an issue. I assume the stakes would still fit in the stake loops because they are over-sized to accompany a variety of stakes. I think 12" heavy duty nails or spikes from HD or Lowes would also work, but I think the contoured, cupped, wide shape of the military stake would give if more holding power with the large pebbles and sand mixture you find on many Alaska rivers.

The loops are sized for the Military surp stakes. Big nail type stakes should work as well. You can twist the stake loop to get a tighter fit on nail type stakes
