Backpack Discussion

There are ice axe loops at the bottom
One change from shown is the Daisy chain will be on packbag material so the stretch pocket will have a center strip of non stretch material
X21RC has vx42 bottom
X33 will be its own packbag as an option. Fewer color options basically a lightweight and a rugged fabric
D40 is reinforcement as is Cordura and Cordura is suspension as well
Yes its own extensions
You can run the standard two compression setup anchored to packbag or float the compression to a Talon by unthreading and adding buckles
The frame is essentially the same but smaller diameter thicker wall which is easier for the user to tweak a bit

Since the Divide pack can be swapped out with other Unaweep packs, does that mean it will be available with the older frame? Are there any advantages to the older frame over the newer one?

Wow, a ton of great info. Looks like the Divide is really the solution to some of the issues I had with the 4800. I still love the talon-packbag design, but this is honestly probably a better choice for someone like me who is backpacking probably 80% versus hunting 20%.

When you say the frame is more subtle and can be tweaked, do you mean that it can potentially be bent to better fit the user, as with aluminum stays in an internal frame pack?

Also, what will the color options be? Light gray in the ultralight fabric, right? And what for the X33?

Frame is easier for a user to fine tune. Not easy by any means but easier to adjust a bit.

X33 is Multicam , so yes those will be color options. Personally, it probably is a better solution for someone who is primarily a backpacker and does not have odd loads, snow shoes and things like that.

I'm not much of a hunter but would like to be eventually. Do you think the Divide might still be a good option for hunting? I guess you'd have to do inside-the-pack carry of the meat or get a talon. Or should someone who might also be hunting definitely go with the traditional Unaweep? I know the shorter frame might be an issue for some people.

Well the frame can still be extended, so frame height is not a big deal, just extend it when carrying a big load.

I think the divide would do reasonably well for hunting as long as you were not carrying anything crazy. Boned out meat in the bag no problem. A moose rear quarter , probably not.

It can accept a Talon / floating compression system with the addition of one compression strap (which there is a spot for) and undoing the compression from a ladder lock and placing a matching buckle. The back still has a place to anchor a talon on the bottom and top.

So far it all sounds pretty ideal. Looking forward to learning more and also for the chance to order one, probably with a lid. I think a blaze orange talon would be the perfect accessory for hunting season, when I'll be carrying more than usual. I'll keep an eye on the website over the next couple of weeks.

Will the new frame be compatible with other Unaweep bags? I could see myself wanting to add a 4800 for winter camping and maybe some hunting applications.
