Unaweep Divide

Placeholder for the Unaweep Divide discussion, which is a new UL version based on the Unaweep. No photos or anything yet, hopefully in a couple weeks.

Overview: Integrated mesh rear pocket, sized for easy bear can usage. Two compression straps integrated, with optional anchor points sort of like the Unaweep Exposure. Estimated weight in VX21RC 2 lbs 10 oz. Lid compatible and optional. No bottom load sling . CI around 4K interior volume.

Same suspension components. Daisy chain added on harness. You can still swap between bags.

Ask any questions, or add any feature requests you like. Designed more for the UL hiker / backpacker.

I don't know enough about backpacking to make suggestions, but I'm very interested in seeing this. I want to pick up a light pack for the wife at some point so i can convince her to go with me, and this sounds nice.

For those of us that already have an Unaweep frame and packbag, will be be able to order just a Divide packbag? This could be the smaller sibling to my 4800 packbag I've been thinking about.

Will it have integrated bottle pockets?

Yes you can order just the pack bag. It has bottle pockets. The pockets are slightly different

I'm curious the status of this project. I have been in the market for a new pack and have been researching the Unaweep as a top option for a while. I have been very close to pulling the triger on the standard Unaweep 3900 in one of the lightweight xpacs but was questioning the necessity of a few of the features in my use--such as the load sling.

The size of this sounds perfect and I like the addition of the daisy chain on the harness. Does the loss of the load sling create issues in using one of the other pack bags such as the 4800? Is there a significant change in the compression with the integrated pocket? I would assume that a talon would not be used with this.

Is there an advantage to waiting for some of the new mods (daisy chains, no sling, etc?) to the suspension designed for the Divide and ordering a 4800 separate as opposed to what is offered in the 4800 and suspension combo now and adding the Divide bag separately later?

The status is it is coming along, but we have to get Cimarron / Bivy / and Exposure into production.

My expectation is it will be order able in a few weeks and probably be delivering within 8 - 10 weeks.

Load sling is not an issue, no talon

The advantage to ordering a current 4800 is you will get it sooner. All the stuff can be swapped out. The current setup is a lot more multi function, where the divide is more point function

I'm not sure what you mean by bear can compatible for the rear mesh pocket. If you can fit a whole bear can in the rear mesh pocket, it must be huge. Something roughly the size of the new mesh talon or a little bigger (taller) would be good. But I guess running a bungee compression system across the mesh pocket would solve any sagging on a huge pocket.

A simple roll top for the packbag is the best, and a daisy chain running down each side of the pack (running all the way from the top of the bottle pocket to 3/4 the way up the side of the pack) with a roll top cinch strap coming from the daisy chain like on the HMG Porter would be great. I generally don't clip the roll top ends together but rather clip them down on either side of the pack to unused side compression straps to cinch to roll top down. Taller and slightly slanted solid fabric water bottle pockets on both sides would be nice, sort of like your new bottle wings. The current Unaweep pockets are sort of short and losing gear and bottles out of them in the brush is a drag. A bungee rather than a static line to cinch the top of the bottle pocket top would be great.

If the new VX fabric would lend itself to cuben seam tape on the inside, making the interior seams less bulky so that they could take 1" wide tape for serious waterproofing would be cool. I aquaseal the outside seams now as it is for packrafting use.

Maybe we confused the wording . It has a mesh rear pocket. The pocket is not bear can compatible . The bag is sized to fit one easily and there is a place for one the outside as well that doesn't ride super low like a ccf pad

Gotcha. That makes more sense.

In a perfect world, the mesh pocket should hold packraft paddle blades plus other junk, or an avy snow shovel blade plus wide climbing skins. This could be THE pack for many applications.
