Abrasion

Has anybody experienced abrasion on the part of the material that that the very top of the frame slides into? I just noticed last night that at the very top of the slot where my left side of the frame slides into is showing some decent wear, right around the cusp of the tubing, and If it were to ever rip through this would essentially disable the pack. The other side looks perfectly fine, so I find it kind of odd and perhaps a one off case. I've only been using it without the frame extensions in so far, and only taken this on 2 good trips.

So without frame extensions have you been using the rubber end caps ? There have been a couple isolated abrasion issues but from stuff like riding in the back of an ATV on a grate. Send me a photo and I can get a better idea

I have not. And after thinking about it, I was wondering if that was reasoning. That upsets me. I bet its because I sent the one pair back, and have had the pack together without them since. When I received the new frame extensions, I never thought about taking the caps off to put back on- damn.

I'll send a picture later tonight when I'm home and you can let me know what you think. It could hold up, but I also don't want to be gambling on it 10 miles back.

We can replace it if it is an issue. Send a photo, and let us look at it.

You should use end caps even when not using extensions, however the material on top is two layers Hypalon + Cordura.

The only real issues we have seen have normally been exterior abrasion , like aforementioned ATV, and things like that.

After reading this thread, I checked my pack last night and noticed a similar type of wear on the sleeve that the frame runs into. It does not appear to be bad right now, but is noticeable. I have been using the pack without extensions and therefore do not have the plastic end caps that are installed in them. I don't remember seeing any rubber end caps, but maybe they were there and got thrown out. I was able to remove one of the plastic end caps from an extension and install it in the end of the frame. I was still able to get the extension over the plastic end cap, so maybe this is a possible solution. Or maybe I just need to get another set of rubber end caps.

I've also now taken off the plastic end cap from the extensions and placed them on here.

I would say that mine is not quite that bad in terms of wear, but getting close.

Hi Rossi,

In terms of the plastic end caps, it sounds like they should be used no matter what your setup is. If without extensions, take them off the extensions and put them on the ends of the tube. With the extensions, make sure they are at the top of the extension. Basically no matter what, you want to the end cap to be used with your packs to keep the integrity of the sleeve material. I didn't realize this either.

I agree, but the plastic end caps are a pain to remove (at least mine were). Having an extra set to put in the ends of the frame sans extensions would be better. Moving them back and forth would get old, not that I use the extensions much.
