Talon ideas...

Postby jmblackston » Fri Jul 19, 2013 8:50 am

Could the talon have a section of hook and loop on the external for patches? What about inside for attaching hook and loop backed pockets/pouches?

Thoughts?

Hi Jim

Thanks for suggesting ideas. In the end it is about solving customer needs. To make sure we understand you correctly, you are asking about having the capability to put a bag or pouch or small organizational piece of gear on the back of the day talon ? Is it to add more volume for day hikes or to add more volume capability to the pack or simply a little bit of extra organization ? The day talon as it is has the ability to use the compression straps (when used as a day talon) to put a jacket or stuff sack on the outside. It also has the ability to use the Seek Outside Gateway (which I'm biased and think is absolutely wonderful) to add about 350 CI and a water bottle pocket to the front. I find this usage of the Seek Outside Gateway to be terrific. It accomplishes a couple things, first better organization for items you need, like gloves, hat, mosquito net, snacks and water. This makes you very efficient in your travel. The second side benefit of it is in carrying heavy loads. Since your water , snacks etc are near, you don't really need to take off the pack and shoulder the pack near as often. In fact you can just find an appropriate stump that alleviates the stress from the big load and take a break, grab a snack and have some water.

JM,

Sorry for the threadjack, but I'm going to expand on your idea a bit and try to crowd source some ideas.

One of the advantages of the Talon is that it separates the organization from the pack bag, and this allows you to dial the Talon to the trip you're taking.

We have an opportunity to expand the Talon series. We've considered a Talon specifically for hauling dry bags, a bigger Day Talon, a Talon for safely carrying optics, one for crampons, etc.

What Talons would you guys be interested in?

No problem! Crowd sourcing can make good things great! :)

ktimm - I was both referring to a small piece of hook and loop on the OUTSIDE of the talon for patch, ID, etc. Also the interior back of the talon (inside the pack), could be hook and loop for hook and loop backed pouches.

There is a small pocket at the bottom of the day talon that can hold stuff like ID, keys etc.

Me personally, I'm a big fan of a talon specifically for dry bags that replaces most of what separates a pack bag from a dry bag. My optics are small, they fit in a Talon already :)

I think we are going to introduce a simple pocketed Talon similar in size to the Day Talon, but without the daypack capability. It should be lighter than a Day Talon, provide storage, and be affordable.

It already helps if talons have horizontal loops on the side to hang accesory pouches on for example lens cases of a DSLR or even external side pouches for extra loading space or side carry system for skies or snowshoes

I like the idea of using the base talon to attach varying pack sizes to a single frame. Using something similar with a kifaru bikini frame and dry sacks. But a question: what kind of attachment straps does the base talon use? It's a question of versatility. Will this system work only with paradox packs?

The talons are specific to paradox unless you change out the buckles. The pack bags are specific as well, but you can use dry sacks or other bags of various sizes in between. The bags won't attach directly but rather just be compressed in the talon. The system is very flexible

I have another Talon idea. Call it the "Bat Tallon" I prefer a day pack with waist belt pockets for snack, gps, phone, etc. Most larger packs have belts that will accept one of the aftermarket zip pockets. It would be awesome if you built a Day Tallon with bat wings/ zip pockets incorperated into the belt. Just an idea.
