Now Product - Component Bivy

Yes another new product. There are photos located in several places on facebook and in various camping photos.

The component bivy is a 2.5 layer WPB clamshell design that is generous in sizing. It is not a DWR "sleeping bag cover" so to speak. It is a shelter you can spend the night out in poor conditions on it's own.

Weight - approx 16 ounces
Fabric - 2.5 Layer WPB (more details coming in the next few days)
Design - Clamshell with 4 zipper pulls to allow a lot of venting around the side.

In my testing using inside and outside thermometers, it adds about 7 degrees when vented and 15 - 20 when zipped tight (this would be consistent with the claim that the military gore tex bivy is fine on its own without a sleeping bag to about 50 degrees).

Why do we consider this effective when water resistant uber light bivies are now the norm ? It's simple, we consider this a component of your system. You can take any tent as a base camp and have this as a spike for instance, it is also effective for any time you might have an unplanned stay. Since a ground sheet is not needed, you do save weight not carrying a ground sheet. It can also add 15 degrees or more to your sleep system, so it helps extend the temp rating a lot more than a breathable super light bivy. To us, it is weight that is well worth it at many times

Is it going to have a bug shield over the face? What waterproof material (goretex? E-vent?)

At that weight it looks like it will be a great "unplanned stay" away from base camp piece in the day pack of hunters. For a backpacker it could be a nice addition to their minimalist shoulder season/winter set up.

What is the price point you guys are looking at? And of course, pics? I looked on the SO facebook page but only saw one and it was from a distance.

It should be noted we also don't always follow convention IE the packs are very unconventional and challenged some perceptions . While we don't try to challenge perceptions for the sake of it, we will if in our heart and mind we feel we are offering a better overall solution . Thus, while easy for us to make a lightweight bivy similar to what is available , we see that solution as becoming less relevant with better and lighter bag materials and fill. At least in our testing we are very happy with where this solution is going and how it works within a system
