A question about bugs

For those who have camped in buggy areas,with mosquitos, gnats, and no seeums in particular, how well would you say SO tipis keep them out fully zipped and without a nest?

Just my experiences , I have not had really any issue with flying insects and they tend to want to go to the top where you can open a zipper and let them out . I haven't used thermacells much in a tent but they do work when I've been at a buggy park . I have been fortunate enough to not encounter northern Wisconsin type of bugs .

I'm still questioning this. I am debating getting a nest for my wife and 2 kids for summertime trips. I don't want to pack the extra 3 lbs if I don't have to though. I ordered my 8 man with bug screens and I'm hoping that is sufficient and still keep enough ventilation in the summer months.

I live in rural Alaska and the mosquitoes, gnats, and no see ums are about as bad here as any place on the planet. When I use the 8 man tipi in the summer I bring a small can of purge to spray a couple times a night and they are no problems then. I do not use a nest. The bugs tend to wander toward the very peak of the tipi. It is important to pitch the tent so the flaps rest on the ground all the way around.

I have used coils and they work but with two or three blasts of this,

Bugs will be gone. No smoke like the with the coils.

I did have door bug nets installed on my 8 man, unfortunately the zippers did not hold up, they both broke within the first month of use. I am going to end up cutting the bug net out because its just in the way now. My black lab also went flying through one of the nets to get out of the bugs one night, the net had no chance over his desire to get away from a billion mosquitoes. He tends to sit just outside the 8 man staring at the zipper door all day waiting for it to open when the bugs are bad. If the weather was nice I would leave the doors open to allow ventilation between them with a pick bug coil burning just outside each door, worked pretty good as long as it was not raining. When I get the 12 man, I will pass on the door screens.

Perfect. Dusk is the worst time for our mosquitoes. I figured if I don't like the bug netting I can always cut it out. All this talk is getting me excited as hell to get this thing!
