Belt sizing?

Postby Flyinsquirel » Thu Oct 02, 2014 5:41 pm

I looked but didn't find the answer so excuse me if this is posted somewhere and I missed it.

If you are like me, a 32" waist, you end up right in the middle of belt sizes. I've ran into this with other pack makers as well. I usually go with the small belt and after a few heavy loads it stretches to where it fits even with winter layers on. I've read that with the Paradox belt you don't need to tighten the snot out of it so maybe a medium would work fine as long as I don't end up with the ends of the belt touching in the middle. I did see the post were Kevin recommended to size up to the belt that would fit you with layers on. I also see that I can order a custom length belt as well.

I was thinking it might help me get the right belt if I could get the length of the standard offer belts end of padding to end of padding. Is that info readily available?

Thanks.

I'm 6'3" and 177 right now since getting back from CO, so about as lean as I will be all year. I'm definitely down to a 32" waist. I still prefer the medium belt. There isn't a ton of adjustment left on it, but its plenty to tighten up.

If you shrink any smaller than you are now I'd get the small. If you bulk up like I do and this is your smallest size the medium will work.

We designed the sizes with a bit of overlap for this reason.

small = 27 , medium = 30 , large = 33 for foam sections.

Looking for a little help/guidance,

I wear a size 34-35 pant for reference and ordered the medium size hipbelt. I'm concerned as to how far the foam padding should actually be wrapping around my hips. Kevin did mention that an optimum fit is 1.5 inches past the iliacs. Would that be meaning the middle most point of bone you feel directly on your sides (hip bone?) Or iliac crest meaning the point of bone you feel more inward, slightly lower toward your front side/pelvis?

It does seem to wrap around my sides for the most part, I'm just not sure if the couple extra inches in the large belt would provide me more support? I tried looking this up before posting, but the results were even more conflicting on the web. I don't have much experience with packs and fitting. Any reference will help, thanks.

The next size up has 3 inches more padding , 1,5 per side. If you have room for 3 inches more , all the time then size up , more coverage is better if possible
