LBO Base pitch practice!

I practiced a few lower pitches in my yard for the first time and was very pleased. I see why Kevin suggested to pitch it low with just the base. I feel like even if it was coming down pretty hard as long as it wasn't a serious storm with swirling winds decent sight selection (open side facing a good sized tree with rear side facing the wind) should be fine with these pitches. I felt less exposed under this pitch than I did under a storm pitch with a traditional A frame tarp that is open on both sides. And they have done fine in the rain for me.

The first one is just a much lower pole, more like a regular trekking pole height without and extender. The second is an A frame style. I have the front a touch high and the back a touch low, but it got the job done pretty well. Next time I'll be trying it with a higher rear pole (will be using a stick though as I only carry one pole) and see how that works out.

Yes the low pitch is pretty good for one and provides good coverage. The A frame, you could squeeze two if need be. It's very versatile and with a vestibule, can be locked down to be a very good storm shelter.

Well that is good news because I just ordered a vestibule last night :)

Kevin or anyone who has experience with this question,

I've read a few times on this forum and others people mentioning guying out the center rear pull out vs staking it. Would you mind sharing what each accomplishes vs the other (or tell me I misunderstood what I read)?

I haven't messed with it much but the time I staked it I didn't feel like it added much so I'm curious. Thanks.

It depends on the situation. Staking it , is totally fine, but sometimes I guy it out as it feels a little more roomy when laying front to back with other components. I usually carry minimal stakes, so for me it is often an either or , but usually not both unless there is a nearby tree.

Thanks Kevin. Just to clarify, we are discussing either staking out the rear center stake out point close to the ground or guying out the rear center guy out point above it? And basically you usually do one or the other, depending on the situation and what you brought.
