Getting the red stakes out of the ground?

Getting the red stakes out of the ground?

Postby BabyTaco » Thu Nov 13, 2014 4:12 pm

Sooo I was super stoked and excited to set up my 4 man. Its been below zero the pass few days and after a night of sub zero temps I can't get the stakes out of the ground. I am not sure what to do. I tried using 550 cord and looping it through the hole to have something to pull on but it just cut through it. I hit one all over and got it out but its bent to hell and I don't want to destroy them...HELP!

I've had some winter in the ground before. Maybe try a pound in and see if they loosen. Generally with a bit of warm weather or sun they will come out.
In real frozen ground I often use screwd to avoid that problem

Assuming you have aluminum stakes, if you have a little propane torch, I'd hit them with that just enough to heat up a little and they should transfer the heat down enough to loosen up in the ground and easily pull out.

Titanium stakes are good to use in the winter because snow and ice don't stick to them like aluminum. Titanium nail stakes are good in frozen ground.

Thanks guys, Ill try taking a heat gun to them when I get home. I picked up some gutter spikes from the local lumber store and they seemed to do fine this weekend. Just a bit on the heavy side.
