ive got a remington 700 classic in 300wby.that has been my goto gun for years.this year traded for a remengton 700 7mm rum.had some work done to it and it is extremly accurate with 160gr accubonds havent drawn blood with it yet but love this thing on the range

Seems like I always and up with a 30-06. Although not a bad thing. I could get 'er done just as easily with a 308, 7mm-08, 260rem. Have really been impressed with 140gr partitions out of both the 7mm-08 and 260rem. And the 25-06 with 115gr partitions is one of my fav.

But dang it! Ever time I see a rifle I just gotta have I'll grab it shoulder it and the sonofabuck is a dog gone 30-06.

I have used many calibers over the years and took my first 5 bull elk with a .243....
I then upgraded to a .270, then a .270WSM, I purchased a Tikka T3 lite in 7mm Mag a couple years ago and have taken a couple elk with it... Strange thing is, the 7mm is lighter and less recoil than all three of the other calibers I mentioned. Technology has come a long way!!!!
I have been refining my camping technique over the years as well, and I find myself here at seekoutside.... Definitely vast improvement since my early years! Thanks SO and Kevin and Angie!!!!

i stick with a .308, and really, the only reason i would not use it is if i draw my once-in-a-lifetime buffalo tag here in utah; would like to take one of those with an ol' .45-70. but anyways, i load 165 grain Sierra Gamekings on Winchester brass with Remington primers, IMR 4064 powder. i only use the press to seat the bullet, do everything else with my Lee bandloader and a few other things (chamfer, Lyman case trimmer, primer pocket brush, etc.) I just feel like the .308 has been around so long and is such a manageable round. it's neither over or underkill for elk or deer within 700 yards.

The 168 TTSX did a great job on a cow this year ... not so good on a Mule deer , seemed like too hard of a bullet on the mule deer and that earlier expansion would have been better. On the cow, well ... she went rolling and quick .

This is an old thread, but I'm new and they are all old threads... This was actually the third newest.

.270 Win for everything, but only because I lucked into a rifle that is way more accurate than it has any right to be. I used to load Sierra Gamekings in 130g for small stuff and Accubonds in 140g for elk (not that I can convince one one to let me test that load on him). But dead is dead, so now I just use the 140's for everything. I do load it pretty hot since the gun doesn't seem to mind. 3 shots @ 100y = .246". And I'm not even a particularity good shot. I used to have a wandering eye and was always looking to trade up. But, now I have found my one true love. Also, about 95% of my hunting is with a bow anyway.
