Tent suggestions

There are three of us going on an elk hunt (first rifle season) to Colorado next fall. All three of us are between 5'10" and 6'1", 180-210 pounds.

We're going to be needing a tent with stove capabilities to do a full first season (one week) run at up to 12,000 feet. Yes, I've hunted this area before, and yes, if it's still warm the elk will be that high.

We're looking for a floorless tipi-style or tarp style tent, stove compatible, and lightweight, but with enough room for three guys and their gear for an elk hunt.

Here's the rub: none of us routinely hunt with that many people in the party. Generally, we're solo or occasionally with one other person. This hunt is a once-every-so-many-years type gig. So, one of us will end up with this tent after the hunt and if it could work well for our usual hunts, that'd be perfect.

Suggestions?

You may be able to do a BCS Grand with 3, it's about the same size as a 6 man. An 8 man would offer more room.

The BCS Grand's bonus is it'd be very useful as a 2 person shelter as well, just swap the base for a vestibule.

8 man would be the tent I would recommend for 3 hunters, gear, and a stove. Plenty of room for gear inside and room to cook and hang out in the evening after a good hunt.

Thinking hard on the LBO base+tarp+base option with a stove, and then two of us can get a base each, one a vestibule for later, and one a tarp with the stove jack.

So, would a base+tarp+base with a stove jack in the tarp work for this?

I have had 4 in a base tarp base with stove , 3 during hunting season. It works well IMO plus you can make it smaller if need be

That sounds like the way we'll fly. If necessary, we can always add an UL tarp to the gear list and give ourselves some additional space outside for gear (weather dependent).

I ran up on a great deal on an LBO with 3-piece vestibule (stove jack installed), and an EdT 12" cylinder stove. One of my buddies is getting another LBO base and the tarp connector with a stove jack. We ought to be set at this point.

Time to give the LBO/3v a run soon to see how it does on a solo trip.
