This explains it a bit better. We will have assembly videos out soon. This photo was from a car camping trip a couple weeks ago with a lot of cooking. I had hoped to get some backcountry photos together, but fire bans and wind being what they are, it's not a good time to be running a stove unless you need it.

The U Turn stove is functionally the same as our medium and large box stoves. The two side walls and rear are replaced with the lighter stove pipe rollup material and it has a seam to connect to the door just like our box stoves do. The advantage to this approach is you still have a fully operable door and the heavier door material provides additional stability on the top where cooking takes place.

The weight savings are decent, and these are actually a tiny bit less expensive than our box stoves. They are also fully inter changeable so if you own a current box stove, you can just order the U Turn assembly and save a few ounces. The weight savings on the medium stove is about 6 ounces and on the large stove it is 8 ounces. The weight of the stoves, including all components but not the stove pipe, rings or stove bag is 19 ounces for a medium and 24 ounces for a large.

Assembly is a bit different, it requires a little more of a thought out process, but it goes together easily when done with the correct process. You really only have 4 wing nuts to screw on, and 4 to tighten a couple turn when done with the correct process. We will make a video demonstrating this.

The stove above had several hours of very hot fires and was used for cooking Elk steaks, boiling water and heating a can of vegetables all at the same time on top while baking sweet potatoes in the oven / broiler underneath (that works very well BTW). In fact, we slightly burned the sweet potatoes. We ate very well on that trip, and used the stove exclusively for all cooking.

We will get the rest of the information posted soon, as well as pricing for just the U Turn as assembly to save weight (if you already own one of our stoves) and various combination packages.

Ask any question you have.

Thanks for being patient.

Here is an assembly video. As you can see it goes together quickly with minimal fuss. The only moving pieces are really the four wing nuts or weld nuts.

The medium shown in the photo is 680 cubic inches, so it is larger than most cylinder style stoves.

What size stove would be recommended for a pyramid-style tent that is 9x9x6? I'll be using it to cook and dry out gear during hunting season in NY, where the weather varies from the 40's and rainy to the teens and snowing. Would the medium be adequate for this?

Either will be fine it just depends on what you want. With stoves, since air is your worker, the large is a bit more efficient due to it's longer length, however we try to limit stoves to about 14" length as we feel that is a good carry size and it does not take up a ton of space in your shelter. I could take either and be happy. If I ever planned to get a larger shelter I might err on the side of the large. We will have U Turn combinations as well, so you can have a medium large combination, but we have not priced that yet.

Thank you. Just put an order in for a medium. Will upgrade if this proves too small.

Just wanted to thank you for the great stove. My medium U-turn warms up a Black Diamond mid rather nicely - taking things from freezing to comfortable in a short time. I used it on a whitetail hunt in northern Saskatchewan in November and couldn't believe what a luxury it was to get out of the wind and cold to warm up. I've also used it on two separate occasions to warm up high school students on trips that I get to run. It's certainly not 'quick' to set up and a person needs to have a ground cloth or something like that to make sure that the small bits don't end up in the snow, but it's completely worth packing along along when going out into a forest.

A question - the Big Sibling stove is tempting to bring along for my high school trips due to its lower weight. Is it any quicker to set up or is comparable to the U-turn stove?

Hi Chris

Thanks. The Big Sibling is super easy but the pipe still takes some time as all do.

The box stoves are generally pretty easy as well, less than a couple minutes after the first setup, even easier if you mark which leg goes where. The UTurns can be easy or hard. If you have a good process, it can be ok, but not as easy as the Box or Sibling.

It's all a trade off. You can have a super easy stove that weighs 6 - 10 lbs and takes a lot of physical effort getting there, or you can have a lightweight stove that is a bit takes a little more time, but saves substantial effort getting to locations.

The Sibling is super easy, but takes more work stoking.

Makes sense. I'm enjoying packing a stove, even if it takes a couple of minutes to assemble. Does the spark arrestor/damper assembly from the u-turn stove fit in the Big Sibling or are they sized differently?
