This explains it a bit better. We will have assembly videos out soon. This photo was from a car camping trip a couple weeks ago with a lot of cooking. I had hoped to get some backcountry photos together, but fire bans and wind being what they are, it's not a good time to be running a stove unless you need it.
The U Turn stove is functionally the same as our medium and large box stoves. The two side walls and rear are replaced with the lighter stove pipe rollup material and it has a seam to connect to the door just like our box stoves do. The advantage to this approach is you still have a fully operable door and the heavier door material provides additional stability on the top where cooking takes place.
The weight savings are decent, and these are actually a tiny bit less expensive than our box stoves. They are also fully inter changeable so if you own a current box stove, you can just order the U Turn assembly and save a few ounces. The weight savings on the medium stove is about 6 ounces and on the large stove it is 8 ounces. The weight of the stoves, including all components but not the stove pipe, rings or stove bag is 19 ounces for a medium and 24 ounces for a large.
Assembly is a bit different, it requires a little more of a thought out process, but it goes together easily when done with the correct process. You really only have 4 wing nuts to screw on, and 4 to tighten a couple turn when done with the correct process. We will make a video demonstrating this.
The stove above had several hours of very hot fires and was used for cooking Elk steaks, boiling water and heating a can of vegetables all at the same time on top while baking sweet potatoes in the oven / broiler underneath (that works very well BTW). In fact, we slightly burned the sweet potatoes. We ate very well on that trip, and used the stove exclusively for all cooking.
We will get the rest of the information posted soon, as well as pricing for just the U Turn as assembly to save weight (if you already own one of our stoves) and various combination packages.
Ask any question you have.
Thanks for being patient.
