Hammock Camping

General Discussion

Mule,

I've been curious about the bridge hammocks for a while now. I toss and turn so the WBBB didn't work great for me but the TTT SB does work well. Would a bridge be potentially better?

Nathan C, I know what the blackbird is but not the TTT SB... ? But the bridge made by them is the best ever. I have made at least a dozen bridges, and when I bought my Ridge Runner I put away the sewing machine at least for making bridge hammocks. The bridge, if hung right, which is tighter than a gathered hammock, will allow you to lay on your side or even your stomach for a short time. I sleep on my side most of the time. Give it a try.

The SB I mentioned is the Switchback from Tree to Tree Trail Gear. Thus far it's the only hammock I've tried that let me side sleep in comfort.

Have a Jacks-R-Better Bear Mountain Bridge hammock. Lightweight, flat lay, bug proof, and damn comfortable when combined with a lightweight fly and appropriate insulation. It's replaced my tent, sleeping pad, bag combo.

I use a Warbonnet BlackBird with cinch buckles + straps and a 7x9 tarp. I like it a lot though it is bulky and heavier than ground sleeping - worth it to me. I save about 2 lbs in sleep gear when it warms up...

Nice setup! I slept in a BlackBird for a couple of years. Have bought two and made one. Good choice!

What type of pad/under quilt is recommended for a Hennessey?

For a person with no knowledge of hammocks wanting to get set up with a good outfit what would your recommendations be...not only which hammock, but what are the "must have" accessories?
Thanks.

kevhans,

What is your height/weight? And are you a back, side, or stomach sleeper? Do you lie still or toss and turn a lot at night?

There are a lot of differences in hammocks. My wife is a back / curl up in a ball / doesn't move at ALL sleeper, while I toss and turn all night and like to sleep on my side. The Warbonnet Blackbird works great for her, while the Switchback works better for me.
