I try to baby it but things happen. I value my gear and don't want it screwed up by abuse. Its hard enough to make things last taking care of them but like I said, things happen no matter how careful one is.

I don't bushwack much, but the trails I hike are poorly, if ever, maintained, so its akin to bushwacking. Tho I don't baby it, I do clean and inspct my back.

I try to take care of my gear. That being said my cross-country trips involve bushwacking and climbing across talus fields. Especially the talus fields are hard on my backpacks as the Sierra granite is pretty abrasive and I get often into contact with the big boulders.

I've only worn out one pack in my life. Straps and buckles are the areas of wear I've experienced lately. After a few seasons of hunting in the desert they tend to dry out.

I think my packs take more abuse off my back than on. Being thrown in and out of vehicles, being dropped and sat on while resting, kicking around camp in the rocks and dirt. The sooner the newness wears off, the better I feel. I use it hard enough to feel that I can trust it, but try to take care of it as well.

I would like to see the 42 fabric in another color.

White or black are the standard choices on vx42. Gray might be an option if there is interest but if we did that we would likely do away with the vx21 gray

Kevin any update on the availability of the vx42 in grey? The durability of the vx42 a big plus for me, but not so keen on the black....

It is a very light gray almost a white. I'm not sure if it is better. Let me pose a question in an attempt to balance , colors , weight and durability. What about the gray or coyote VX21 with a double bottom with VX42 and black bottle pockets. That puts VX42 in the most abrasion sensitive areas
Thoughts ?
