Tips n tricks for Redcliff - SXL

Hello!

I've just ordered the Redcliff plus nest with the SXL stove and Im very excited! This is my first products from Seek Outside and Im asking for tips and tricks for a first time user?

Whats your experience with the tent, nest and stove?

Have you used the nest?

How did you roll the pipe for the first time?

What about burn time for the SXL or your own stove?

Please share your toughts! (And pictures)

Ok .. rolling the pipe is. Eat done with two people and wearing gloves . We are reshooting a video on it as Dustin and joe got it down .

The nest and stove can be used together but I don't usually if it's cold bugs are not an issue .

Burn time depends on wood prep. Having coals in the morning is not uncommon but flames are usually an hour maybe 1.5 but with good wood more .

Redcliff and SXL imo is a great combo .

On rolling the stove pipe for the first time. I used a piece of 2" PVC schedule 40 pipe (2-1/2" OD) that is just longer than the stove pipe. On a garage or basement floor with two people lay the stove pipe out with the PVC pipe on top closest to you. Have the pipe rings close by, line up the PVC pipe with the front edge of the stove pipe and slowly begin rolling. Try to keep the stove pipe straight and tight on the PVC pipe. When the stove pipe is all rolled, slip the pipe rings over the stove pipe and space out evenly. You should now be able to slide the PVC pipe out of the stove pipe.
This method has worked well for me a couple times with no wrinkles or dents in the stove pipe.

Also on your initial pipe burn in, after the fire is out in the stove and the pipe is cooled. Change ends with the pipe and build another fire. This gets the entire length of the pipe burned in evenly. Then on your next stove set up the pipe rolling will be much easier and a one person job. Having a couple extra pipe rings on hand is a good idea.

I did a similar thing to get the stove pipe rolled out for the first time except I used a cardboard tube used for shipping posters and such. It worked well. Once its been burned in, you no longer need something to shape with.

Tent setup - stake out the four corners. Don't pull them tight. Simply pull on the corner to get the corner into place, but do not stretch the fabric. Once the four corners are staked, insert the pole. Now you can do the remaining stakes. I like to pull out the two sidewall guyouts before doing the remaining floor stakes.
Staking out without too much stretching at the ground is important. If you stretch the sides too much with the stakes, the tent tends to flatten out about 2 feet up and you lose headroom near the walls. The redcliff has enough floor space that you want to maximize headroom.
