Tipi Stake Setback

My 16 man Tipi should arrive this Thursday. And I'm a little confused on exactly how to go about pitching it. Ive watched a few YouTube videos, but they are as clear as mud.

Most videos say to stake 4 corners tight. Then pull out the other loops, move in 6in, and stake.

What is considered the "four corners"? Do I stake both sides of the doors?

I'm confused. Can somebody help explain to me where to start, how much to measure in, etc?

Ok stake one zipper , then pull the other zipper out to natural taughtness then set it back the desired distance . The the sides are pulled to where the fabric starts to have tension and then set back. After that insert the pole , and make sure the 4 sides have equal tension then stake the rest out taught . It's simple but hard to articulate . Perhaps there is a better way than a video to articulate it

Thanks

There's a video here, along with setback distances:

Once you do it a time or two it's pretty simple. I do the zipper-to-zipper setback without measuring by doubling the distance from the stake loop to the upper guyout when it is just taut. Seems to work on the 6 and 12 person.

Way easier to take the center pole while assembled and mark one of the holes at the desired radius. Set a center stake and measure off of that point in an "x" placing stakes at the marked location. Hook to those stakes and raise your pole. Then simply stake out the remaining stakes. A perfect pitch every time. One of these days I should do a video and post it.

Another simple way is to just take some cordage or the pole and cut it to 10.5 ft , or mark the pole for 10.5 feet. Then either use to pole to measure distance from center or use the cordage cut to 10.5 feet and measure from center and stake it. Do that for all 4 corners and put the pole in to tension and stake out the rest of the tent.

We need to update the video to include more methods. It is on our list, we just have to find a way to present it best

Thanks

Kevin,

I'm curious to why/how you came up with 10.5ft for the distance for the 16man. The height of the 16man is 11.5, so are you subtracting 1 foot? The reason I ask, is because I have the 12 man and I'm trying to figure out the distance I would need for that size, this seems like a much easier and more uniform way to pitch the tipi.
