Backcountry Shelter 2

Since there is a lot of discussion on the other BCS thread, we figured it might be better to dedicate a thread to the new BCS. The new BCS, (BCS 2) is really an evolution. Conceptually the original BCS was based off the George Tarp, with some changes. The LBO was then loosely based off of the BCS, with some changes, and now the BCS 2 is sort of based off of the LBO. It's funny how evolution works isn't it ? Anyway, I'll list out some of the design details and specifications I have and photos and pricing will be coming soon. Pricing will be close to current pricing.

What were the design changes and why ?
- We made the rear a bit wider to facilitate cross wise sleeping for taller people. The change is not huge, but it does allow better orientation options.
- We did away with the rear tail. When querying customers this feature seemed to not be used that often.
- We relocated the rear center guy out a bit lower. This was done to facilitate better use of a guy line for making the rear wall nearly vertical.
- We changed the zipper orientation to being almost exactly like the LBO with a 3 part vestibule (2 side zips). This was done for a few reasons. First, the ventilation with this orientation is superb. Secondly, accessing the zipper is very easy. In more of a mid style design where two panels come together, often times people use arrows or something to access the zipper, since it is essentially in the corner. WIth this design the zipper is in a nearly flat area so access is easy. Finally this design is very livable. I know we are a lightweight company, but we like to focus on efficiency and comfort as well. People flat out do not sleep as well, if someone is crawling over them all night. This design alleviates that.
- It will be standard with the 3 part vestibule (similar to the add in panel). The stove jack will be center located, so the entry is not in the way. There is a small weight penalty in this configuration of about 3 ounces, but it saves about 10 - 12 ounces vs the add in panel. Once again, talking to customers, it seemed that this was how they used the shelter most often.
- Sizing is pretty similar, just a bit different and actually feels more roomy.

We will get photos up in the next few days and it should be order able in the next few days as well.

Looks good. More pictures coming? The door opening looks huge! Did the BCS2 get mesh for the doors?

OK, have you decide if the mesh will be sewn in or velcro?
