BT-2 Questions

I recently picked up a lightly used BT-2 for a great price ($180 with stove jack).

I was pitching it and making some stake loop extensions with 550 cord. Anyway, I noticed a couple features that I don't know what the intended use is, so maybe you can let me know.

First, four loops sewn in on the interior, up at the cone,

Second, there are short nylon ties on two of the interior stake loops, between the doors, and opposite each other,

Overall, looks like an awesome solo shelter,

Thanks, Shane

Come loops are just for utility / tying / drying etc. Cordage ok ties was for a feature we have not offered which is anchoring trekking poles handles along with extensions to create an inverted V non center pole pitch

Ha Ha!

Yeah, well, I wasn't really looking for a BT2 just now, but when the opportunity presented itself I had to take it.

I have a Unaweep 4800 in the pipeline, looking forward to that.

It's kind of funny, I spent 25+ years in the Marine Corps, as an artillery FO. Lots of miles as a human pack mule, carrying all manner of heavy gear and equipment. I've just recently 'discovered' going light. It's quite amazing and I'm slowly putting together some lightweight kit. I'm all done with tents, having the BT2, 4-man and 12-man. Also picked up a Primus Omnilite, and some lightweight cookware. Still looking at woodstove, boots, clothing. It's all coming together....grin.

Yes...I've seen the light.....grin

We sold off our nylon 4-season tents, a 2-man and 8-man, in favor of the tipis. The tipi is so light, and so fast and simple to pitch, and take down. Not to mention woodstove capability.

While I'm sad to say it I spent the first night in my BT2 this past weekend after having it from March or there abouts.

I really like the size and ease of set up. It was my first experience in a single wall shelter, and there was a lot of condensation on the inside (temps were about 40 at night, 60-70 in the day), which I will have to get used to. However, I also should have opened the zipper more to allow for better venting.

As a one man shelter though it seems hard to beat, especially if bugs aren't a significant problem.

I just used my BT2 for the first time out at Mt. Adams. We set it up in one of the bizillion little bivy sites that previous trekkers have cleared out over the years on the basalt fields near the Lunch Shelf, and it worked out pretty well. I don't think we had a very good pitch, since it was only my second time pitching it, but it had almost enough room for both of us to sleep (our sleeping bags touched the walls), plus enough room to run a stove (Reactor) in the morning.

I'm hoping to find some tips and/or videos about this tent so that I can learn how to pitch it more quickly... then I'll wander out to a city park to play with it for a bit, hopefully before my next adventure. :)

My eldest brother was using the BT-2 up in northern Quebec on a Jeep-based deer hunt this weekend.

He said it rained all weekend but he was nice and comfy with just a big candle going all night

He got a nice, meaty spike buck on Sunday BTW.
