12 man tipi questions

I have been thinking of getting a tipi/stove combination for backpacking trips with my family (wife, 3 kids and dog), and am debating between the 8 and 12 man versions. Does anyone actually pack 12 man tipis over long distances? Are CF poles available for the 12 man to reduce weight? Finally, can someone please post pictures of packed 8 and 12 man tipis with a Nalgene or some other item as a size reference?

One more question: How hard is it to find appropriate sites to pitch 8 or 12 man tipis when backpacking in alpine areas (we are in CO)?

Hi
Not hard to find a space since both pitch down. We do have a lot of photos but they are all over and I know a 12 person was recently posted on our facebook all compressed.
No carbon for the 12 person, except one we have in stock. Once that is gone that is it.
I've backpacked a few times, and I think some people do but not near as many as that backpack the 8.
You wife will love the 12 , but you will prefer carrying and packing the 8. Both will work, but the 12 will be comfortably large while the 8 will be large enough. The 12 you can use 4 cots if you are car camping etc.

Kevin, thanks for the response. How much weight does the CF pole in the 12 man save compared to the aluminum?
Wow, the 12 man packs down incredibly small:

Rye I have the 8 man and I use it for a family of 4 with stove and lab. I have a trip planned where the daughter is bringing a friend. It is going to be snug in the 8 with the dog, stove and 5 but doable. I think the 12 man is much better for 5, stove and dog on the regular. If you wife can pack some of the weight it would definitely be worth it.

I own a 12 man with the XL stove, and live on the western slope of colorado. If you want to meet, we could set it up in a park and you can check it out. I was making the same decision you are.... I am sooooo glad I went with the 12 man

Thanks so much. Unfortunately I don't make it over to the Western Slope very often.

Kevin, how much weight does the CF pole save compared to the AL pole in the 12 man? Is there a reason that you aren't offering it anymore?
