I was trying to find the LBO set up like a tarp using 2 trekking poles only before I got one so I thought if post up my attempt at setting it up as a shelter using only 2 trekking poles and no vestibule. This would be a palace with a bivy tossed in to protect your bag and still have room to stash your gear and cook and whatnot. It's not the optimal setup but much more roomy than a smaller tarp in an A Frame setup.

The only way I see me using this set up would be if I didn't have the vestibule and rain came in pretty heavy. Dropping the front down would minimize rain blowing in. But the vestibule is so light and packable it's always easy to bring along.

This set up is probably the closest thing to a modern rendition of Warren H. Miller's forester tent set up.



I have mentioned elsewhere on the interwebz that the LBO design and its ilke are, IMHO, one of the best designed outdoor shelters out there.

It can morph from from forester to tipi (more like Sibley, actually) to large Hudson Bay tent set ups.

I am simply amazed... and I am actually mostly a hammock guy.
