BC2 in Vermont Winter 2014

Postby ejkessler » Mon Jul 14, 2014 4:42 pm

Took a trip with a few like minded Bushcrafters to Southern VT in Jan 2014 along side Somerset Reservoir. The temps ranged from about -20 F at night to low to upper teens during the day. I got to use my new SO BC2 and SO large titanium stove. This is an awesome setup IMO. I had the BC1 originally and it was a nice setup but this new design is awesome!!! I highly recommend it.

I used ecobricks (bio bricks, etc) and they worked wonderfully. Tent stayed about 75 to 85 degrees plus even during the coldest snaps.

Excellent video. So you get 2.5 hrs burn with a decent amount of heat form the Eco Bricks ? If so, that is awesome and answers one of the most common questions. How much do the bricks weigh ?

The bricks weigh about 3 1/2 lbs each. I used 2 to 3 bricks per load as they are fairly dense and will burn hot as coal if you are not careful. It worked out really well because the wood we had available was mostly soaked and difficult to get burning hot. I dried the wood next to the stove on an ongoing basis to help that out. The 2 fuel sources balanced each other out well. After about the 2 1/2 hours the temp would drop to about 35 to 40 degrees F with the outside temp in the low minus teens F. We packed in with sleds/pulks so the weight of the bricks was not a huge issue.

Great video. Top on my bucket list is a New England Winter camp.
Unfortunately I don't get a chance at using a "Hot Tent" in Arizona!
