Just got back from a 10 day hunt on “The Rock”, and thought I would share some pictures. All were taken with my phone through my spotter.

Saw a lot of bears this year which I thought was pretty odd for Oct. at elevations between 2,000 and 3, 500’. Every bear we saw (10 different bears), were feeding on lupine roots, which also seemed odd beings winter is right around the corner and lupine roots don’t really seem like the type of food to pack on the wt./fat for a long winters nap.

And some goat pictures. Some of the lower quality ones are from video footage that I paused and took a screenshot of.

Cool. Glad your trip was a success.

The bears are behaving a bit oddly this year. With the cold spring and cool, overcast summer the berry crop is basically nil. The bears do rely on berries to ‘top off’ after chowing salmon, so they may be looking for any sort of alternative at this point. The wildlife guys at Fish and Game commented on the number of DLPs so far this fall. A lot of folks seem to be having uncomfortable encounters with bears, and I have seen near sign here in town in Kodiak where I have never seen it before (like in a park along the channel).
