I would like to start bow hunting, but not sure where to start for bows. I would start with deer hunting here in MN, with a long term goal of elk hunting in CO. What compound bows would be good to start looking at? Should I buy used until I find a good match. I'm 6'4" with monkey arms, so I'm thinking that my reach is going to be 31-32".

If you have any good bow shops around where you live, I would suggest paying them a visit and just trying out different bows. I did this about 7 years ago and it was a really good learning experience. The shop closest to me was very accomadating and spent quite a few hours with me over several days spaced out over several weeks. I ended up purchasing a Bowtech and it's worked very well for me over the years. There are a lot of very good bow manufactures out there and I think just trying out as many as you can that best fit your needs, is your best bet. The main thing is shooting a bow that fits you (draw length) and is comfortable to draw. Hope you have a place close by to give you a hand, and good luck in your search.

Thanks. I'm assuming a smaller shop vs a Cabelas or Gander Mountain would be better? Looks like a couple of the smaller shops have a little range in try out the bows.

Finding a good pro shop in your area is the best way to go...

Definitely find a pro shop. Btw, I'm 6'3" with long arms and shoot a 30" bow. I hope you're a 30 or 31" draw because options are limited longer than that.

Try a Trad Bow. Just for fun, I shoot a 52 pound long bow. You might be surprised. Just thinking.

Thanks for asking. Haven't decided on anything yet. I'm in the middle of a job/career transition and a house project, so haven't had the time to look much more yet.
