Anyone tried freezer bag cooking or dehydrated their own meals? What are some good recipes?

I have not, but am interested in trying to make some of my own. It should be less expensive and more flexible than Mountain House. That is one area, I think I can really improve my setup

I do my dehydrate my own meals. But rehrydration by freezerbag cooking is not my prefered method. i get better result by heating the dried food with just enough water untill a slow roll boil. let it simmer one minuut and then put it away in a cosy. it gives better results

About dehydrating your own food. Anything is possible, key thing is keep the ingredients in small pieces, the smaller the better. Meats should be minced or otherwise be prepared as jerky, Fish an chicken the same , just mince them.

All my meals have a base of meat and sauce which I dehydrate as one in a large batch. The rest like pasta, rice, vegetables, fruit or whatever I dehydrate in large batches. Together with some already dries spices and herbs I assemble foodpackages from the separate dried batches.

I use an Excalibur dehydrator, it's a very capable dehydrator.

That sounds like good advice. I had thought of making large bags that I just sort of made meals from, sort of like a bag of nuts. If you could get a few main ingredients to work well together you might be able to suffice with very few and have several different meals.

It also helps to have a bag with separate spices and flavours to spice up the mix you made. Sometimes the mix you made could use a little more and well if you have it by hand then there is no problem. I like the small plastic bottles with for instance garlic flavoured olive oil, another kicker is simple those small dices you use to make your own soup. Furthermore dried italian herbs, peppers and chili's

What do you usually do when you go for trekking and for adventures ? I mean to say what kind of food do you usually take with you?

For me it's often nuts berries and jerky. I may try some cache lake meals soon, I tasted them at a show and liked them. Also I use bars often like Kind , Lara Etc

For breakfast I mix a large batchof oatmeal or Brinta with chopped up nuts, chocolate and or fruit. These I divide in day packages. For lunches I usualy just eat same knd of food as a Diner but slightly less in quantity. I make up meals consisting either of rice, pasta, tarly or even chopped up patatoes. Another variation which takes more dehydrating work is making meal soups. These are soups full of vegetables and fish or meat and one portion of soup equals a standard meal.
