Campfire Cooking

Howdy folks,

New here, but figured I have to jump in somewhere. Found Seek Outside/Paradox through BCUSA. Loving the concepts.

I do a fair amout of outside cooking. I agree with Alukban, this is as campfire as you can get.
A good steak cooked right on the coals,

Get a good set of coals going,


Throw the steak right on them,



Wait until the blood starts to seep out the top,

Then flip it over, and cook for about 7-8 more minutes,


This is what it will look like when it comes out,



Scrape off the excess coals and let it rest for about 10 minutes,

Slice and eat,



The coals sear the jucies in,



I like mine on a good piece of bread with some cheddar cheese,

Not much beats an outdoor breakfast cooked over a wood fire,



Cast iron and wood fires go well together,



Home made corned beef hash with eggs and home made toast,

When going lightweight The only thing I "cook" is water.
I generaly only use "just add water foods" I heat the water over coals pulled to the side

I've enjoyed using my old REI backpack grill for years. With fire restrictions the past several years where I live
I've opted for my alcohol stove. I miss it!

We always have fresh food the first night even In the summer. We freeze some nice steaks and that's always the first night. Of course we're not backpacking. Horses or canoes.

Blacktail tenderloin on the stove.

And a little more primitive with green alder speared, mountain goat backstrap, suspended over the campfire.
