Just curious what is your backpacking pot if choice and what do you prepare with it?

I use a MSR Titan Kettle for most everything. It works with a canister stove, and I've got it rigged out as an alky kit too. Its a good size and sturdy.

I use it mostly for heating coffee and boiling water to rehydrate meals. I'm trying a new dehy recipe this year, quinoa with black beans, tomato, garlic and seasonings, plus tuna. It should be around 450-500 cals per 4-5 oz serving dried.

I picked up a SP 900 and so far I like the added volume when making coffee. I can really fill it up with enough coffee and the liquid isn't too close to the rim while steeping.

Jetboil. I prepare water with it.


Not the lightest or smallest option, but it is simple, quiet, and self-contained.

Jetboil here also. I went with it for the same reasons JDZ did. I only use it for freeze-dried meals and the occasional hot mixed whiskey drink on my mountain hunts.

For quick and lightweight overnighters, I like to use a Ti pot that I got on sale for something like $19 from backcountry.com. It looks pretty much exactly like the Snow Peak 700. They come back on sale every so often and are a smoking deal. I just boil water in it for Mountain House and Vaio or tea.

My favorite pot though is a Ti Snow Peak 1400. Their packed size can be made to disappear by stuffing the end of a sleeping bag or hammock in it when you pack it. I like using it as a reflector for baking biscuits The lid that is also a fry pan is big enough to almost be used as it's own pot for boiling enough water for tea for 1 person and for use as a bowl/plate. The 1400 is also big enough to fit other pots in it for double boiler use or baking over a stove.

In Colorado we have lots of choices that are legal Kidding aside, I have a titanium cup I use most of the time, sometimes I take a GSI kettle if I need more.

Now we have to watch our use of a particular word when talking to you CO guys.
