Rainproof zipper on the Fortress?

How waterproof is the optional side zipper on the Fortress bags? I realize that I should not take one swiming, but would I need some sort of extra raincover for the pack in a torental rain storm?

The talon should provide a natural cover for rain but your mileage may vary. We get mixed reports and I think mixed expectations sometimes. For me , it functions well enough it has not been an issue die to the flap and vertical orientation
