Squeaky frame

I've had my Paradox frame since early this summer. After a recent antelope hunting trip, on which it was subjected to quite a bit of dirt and dust, it started squeaking quite noticeably. The squeak seems to be coming from the point/connection at the bottom of the frame where the articulation is created. I haven't tried cleaning (no obvious dirt or grime) or lubricating it, but just wondering if anyone else has encountered this. It happens when I flex the top of the frame and when wearing it, moving my shoulders back and forth. Will investigate it more this week, and will report back. Looking for input or experience.

Hi Rossi,

Take the frame out of the pack and clean the joint. Make sure you lubricate the joint before reinstalling in the pack. Clean aluminum will gall.

I lubricate all the frames with wax, but oil will work as well.

Will do. Does the joint actually come apart or should I just clean around the outside of the joint. I have some bow string wax that I will try and see how it works.

Yeah, the frame is in two halves with a male/female joint. Sounds like you've got some grit.

Bow wax should work. Johnson's paste wax would also work.

I took it apart last night and wiped both halves of the joint down with a damp clothe. Then I applied a fairly liberal coat of bow string wax. The squeak is gone.

Good deal! This is pretty uncommon really. It must take some pretty specific dust/grit conditions to make it happen.

The joint did not appear to be all that dirty, but maybe the original application of wax was gone. At least I know how to fix it now, if it happens again.

Do you have a recommendation for some to lubricate the joint that that would be available at ones local Home Depot? Would something WD-40 suffice?

Never mind, I guess you already answered it in this thread.

Mine creaks too.

Any downsides to silicone, or even case lube?
