Lower or higher hipbelt attachment? When to adjust?

Hi. It seems like the shoulder harness gives a person a lot of room for adjustment to fit different torso lengths. I see that there is also the option to adjust the hipbelt attachment. On my Unaweep, the pack came attached to the upper holes, which is how I assume you send out all of your packs(?). With so much room to adjust the torso length with the shoulder harness........I don't understand when one would want to adjust the bag via hipbelt attachment. When should a person use the lower hip belt attachment or how does one know that they are using the "right" hip belt attachment for their body type or load?

Hi Michael, the hipbelt connections allow you to dial the torso length for different body types. My wife is fitted better by the second setting, while I usually run the first setting to the back of the frame to raise it even more than usual. I'm 6'3" while my wife is 5'5".

2 questions:

1) What is the "first" and "second" setting? Is the "first" setting the lower holes (closest to the strap end) and the "second" setting the upper holes (towards the belt) or is it the opposite?

2) Also, what is your torso length? I'm 6'2 with a 21.5 in. torso.

Hi Michael, I'm calling first the one closest to the belt.

With two grommets and the option of either front or back mounting there are four positions to play with.

I'm 6'3" with an 18.5" torso so pretty normal, but the Evo at least will work for 22+" torsos. The Unaweep will too, but I'd probably run it with 4 inch extensions instead of 2.
